UNIVERSAL DIFFERENCE is unique LGBTQIA lead Australian creative company and artistic collective celebrating LGBTQIA/Queer identity & content in the 21st century.  

Established in 2013 in Melbourne by award winning Queer Director David Mark Farrington in collaboration with LGBTQI artists, activists and educators and their allies from Melbourne and North Central Goldfields, Victoria. 

UD MANIFESTO  – Vision & Purpose  

To create social, cultural and artistic opportunities for new, emerging & established LGBTQIA artists, creatives and activists by providing positive artistic role models and leadership

To provide LGBTQIA-led inclusive practice consultancy in the arts & creative industries

To show case and advance contemporary LGBTQIA cultural expression into the 21st century

The produce quality independent LGBTQIA content creation for digital/screen, theatre and performance art

To develop artistic collaborations between artists, other creative company’s and LGBTQIA communities across multi art platforms and disciplines

UNIVERSAL DIFFERENCE (UD) is a unique Australian social enterprise and artistic collective developed as a partnership between artists and universities, councils and NGO’s. The company has received multiple grants creating a portfolio of original works performed in Victorian festivals, university conferences, professional development workshops, school tours and national & international film festivals including The Midsumma Festival, The Eltham Festival, Melbourne WebFest, Melbourne Fringe Festival, International AIDS conferences, the Safe Schools Symposia, IDAHOBIT and The Castlemaine Fringe Festival and Borders Queer Film Festival, Scotland.

The company and its collective of artists, educators and technical crew developed in Northern Melbourne as a youth-led arts enterprise working with schools, organisations and festivals.

It has now transformed into a regional artistic collective for the communities of the North Central Goldfields in the Mt Alexander Shire and beyond working in solo & collaboration with local artists and events to create a range of cinema, live performance and conceptual art works.

Previous/Current Partners : Nilllumbik and Banyule Council, Monash University, Nillumbik Health, Castlemaine Fringe Festival, Writers Victoria, CineSpace, Bendigo Queer Film Festival and Grace Marion Wilson Foundation, CASPA Gallery and KOSHKA.
